OOEHS, Inc. works closely with
companies to ensure that employee
information and training meets the
specific legal requirements. Companies
must ensure that employee information
and training regarding hazardous
chemicals include the following:

Appraisal of
the hazards of chemicals present in
the work area.

This
information must be provided at the
time of an employee's initial
assignment to a work area where
hazardous chemicals are present.

Employees must
be apprised of the contents of the
lab safety standard, the location of
the CHP, the PEL's of applicable
chemicals, the signs & symptoms
associated with exposure to
chemicals used in the lab, and the
location of reference materials on
the hazards associated with these
chemicals.

Methods and
observations that may be used to
detect the presence or release of a
hazardous chemical.

The physical
and health hazards of chemicals in
the work area.

The measures
employees can take to protect
themselves from the hazards of these
chemicals.
Medical
consultation and medical examinations
The medical consultation and examination
section of the Occupational Safety and
Health Act mandates that employers
provide, at no cost to employees, these
services when an employee develops signs
and symptoms of exposure to hazardous
chemicals located in the workplace or
when monitoring indicates levels above
the action level or PEL.
This section also includes provisions
for providing information concerning the
chemicals in question to the physician
performing the exam.
